I am very (happy/upset) that TCR & TDS are returning on the 7th. For two months I've been (deprived of my God-given right to be entertained/stabbing needles into voodoo dolls representing the media moguls). I can't believe (it took this long for them to get back on the air/Stephen and Jon would sell out so easily)!
What is the (WGA/AMPTP) thinking? Don't they understand they're destroying people's lives? Shame on those money-grubbing assholes. I think they'll be in for a shock when viewers (lap up all the new, exciting reality shows/tune out for all that reality show bullshit). The union is going to break (apart/through the AMPTP) no matter how long it takes.
Just thinking about those (goddamn commie writers/soulless AMPTP fucktards) makes me sick. Jon and Stephen, I'm so (grateful you've seen the light/disappointed that you favor your paychecks over your colleagues). You guys are (great/scabs) for coming back like this.
I say we (make sure to watch every new episode in support/keep our TVs turned off in a show of solidarity with the writers).
Who's with me?!

I'm with you 100%
I am staunchly ambivalent.
I hate to think it will inevitably devolve to tacit approval, if I have no reassurance otherwise.
I want to watch and be told they have somehow found a way around the line without crossing it.

OK. The way I see it, the people who are claiming to be "fans," yet dropping Jon and Stephen because they are returning without writers, don't have the full story, or are making snap judgments before they find information.
First off, this cannot have possibly been an easy decision for Jon and Stephen to make. Obviously they are not simply ignorant jerks. But there is something much more powerful than these two men at work here, and that something is the EVIL CORPORATE OVERLORDS.
Second, this strike is hurting more than just the writers or the hosts. There are 10 TCR writers, and 14 TDS writers, fighting for a fair deal. But there are also hundreds of non-writing staff -- hair and makeup people, wardrobe people, interns, camera people, techies, just to name a few -- who stand to directly gain little from the strike -- although the WGA strike will undoubtedly pave the way for other entertainment industry unions to be able to negotiate in the future -- but who also are hurting because their jobs don't exist right now. Although Jon, Stephen and the other late-night hosts love their writers, and their shows will suffer without them, they also seem to be the type of people who will stand up for the voiceless.
Although the writers do not support this decision -- they plan to picket the studios of these shows when they return to the air -- they have also said that they are not targeting the hosts themselves, just the studios. It sucks that the strike had to come to this, and the WGA's fight just lost some ground, but hopefully it will end soon and things don't have to be so awkward.
Wow. I think this is the longest message I've written on the boards. Sorry if I sound like a complete idiot. I'm just trying to sort through this mess and decide whether or not to watch on Jan. 7. I'm not a Nielsen household, so boycotting won't have a direct effect. And I'm curious to see how the late-night hosts handle the strike, since they haven't had a voice since this started (although Jon did mention it before the strike started.) Plus, the thought of Jon and Stephen performing to a nonexistent audience is painful...

they're not selling out, and I serioulsy doubt it will hurt the strike. I'll be doing my usual, watching the first airing, and none of the reruns. Seems fair

It does...I am interested in finding out what they have to say about the strike, since they haven't really been vocal about their position.

I have to go with the long range plan of keep our TVs turned off in a show of solidarity with the writers.
If the writers are unsuccessful in their bid to improve their contracts, that means that the staff has less to no precedent to use when it's time for them to renegotiate their contracts.
And if the ratings numbers improve, advertisers will stop pressuring the networks to resolve the issue.
So, I can't watch (yet). The boycott of all broadcasting on all networks needs to continue by all viewers in mass (IMHO).
Great post - with the rain that's happening right now I'm anxious to get home before dark and too anxious to laugh.

I so agree with you, soyperiodista.. this is something I wrote last night, in my ultimate boredom and sleeplessness... I fired up the On Notice Board Generator and did up a new board for January...
this is just one thing that made it.. the whole thing can be found on my lj or blogspot blogs...
5. Fair Weather Fans - This one has really got me. Since it's been announced that Jon and Stephen will be going back on the air on January 7th without writers, I can't believe the amount of fans who say that they will never watch the shows again. They say that they are (or were) hardcore religious fans, but because they believe that Jon and Stephen are turning their backs on their writers by going back on the air, they've decided to never watch again. Well, in that case, I say good riddance. Don't they get that there are more than just writers involved these shows? Their jobs along with the writers (and Jon and Stephen's as well) are in jeopardy as long as the shows are off the air. They are going back to secure those jobs. Jon and Stephen love their writers, so much that it's been reported today that they are working on getting an interim deal like David Letterman got for his and Craig Ferguson's shows. Come on, so-called religious fans, give your heads and shake and use some logic.
